Getting the Word Out
Running a small publishing company is an interesting experience. We get to take part in the evolution of a book from manuscript to completed work, including cover art and all the things inside a book that as readers we mostly took for granted. At the same time, it's not easy to sell books, especially in the present economic environment, and unless we sell books it will be very hard to publish new ones.
You might think it would be pretty easy in the Internet age. How hard can it be to reach a wide audience when all you have to do is post updates on your Facebook page (yes, we have One Voice Press Facebook page) or your tweets on your Twitter account (we also have a One Voice Press Twitter account)? Alas, it's not all that easy because everyone else is out there clamoring for attention, too.
Even so, we think we've made a pretty good start. We have our fans and followers and newsletter subscribers. We have a relationship with Canada's Baha'i Distribution Service (notice that Return to Tyendinaga is currently on their home page) and are exploring various options for connecting with Baha'is in the U.S. Of course, we plan to reach a much wider audience in time. Among other things, we hope to promote David Erickson's The Flower at the End of the World through poets.org in April, which is National Poetry Month in both the U.S. and Canada.
The power of word-of-mouth is also important, so we hope you'll share in our growth by spreading the word about us, linking to us from your websites, and connecting with us via social media. We greatly appreciate your support and encouragement. Thank you!
